Join us in helping hungry children, families and seniors in our community by filling up our shopping cart!
For 46 years, the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank has been mobilizing resources to fight hunger in our community. They distributed 67 million pounds of nutritious food in 2018 – the equivalent of 56 million meals – to over 300,000 individuals each month in L.A. County.
One in eight people in Los Angeles County experiences food insecurity. Check out the short and inspiring video below to see the story of one family.
Every $1 donated allows the Food Bank to distribute the equivalent of four meals through their agency network or Food Bank programs. Plus, our contributions save the Food Bank time and resources incurred through traditional Food Drives.
Our family got involved with the Los Angeles Food Bank through an unexpected time in our lives.
I was five months pregnant, with ten children when my husband and I experienced the sudden death of our youngest child (at that time), Sabrina Gabrielle. On November 2, 2014, Sabrina along with her twin sister Sheila Janelle had just turned one year-old. Sabrina, like any other child at this stage in their life was exploring and learning about the world around her until the unexpected happened. On November 20, 2014, her time here was cut short by a tragic accident that took place in our home. Sabrina was found by our son Samuel, who was three at the time, “stuck in the stroller” as he described it. Unlike her twin sister who was napping, Sabrina went exploring in an area routinely not accessible to her.
We found out about the Bag-A-Ticket Food Drive during a very difficult and painful time in our lives. Family members who knew about this event thought it would be a good idea to take some of our children along with other cousins their ages to Magic Mountain to get away for a little while for some fun and an attempt to get their minds off of this untimely accident. We normally would not be able to just jump up and go to Magic Mountain at a moment’s notice. This particular year the event took place on Wednesday, November 26, 2014.
I was so grateful to the L.A. Food Bank and Six Flags Magic Mountain for having this event. They were helping me and my family not knowing what we were going through. In addition to that, we had the opportunity to help other families in need, while we were grieving and for that, I am thankful.
After my children came back happy, and excited to tell us about the fun they had on that day, I vowed from that point on to give every year and to continue to be a blessing to others, as so many during this time were a blessing to us. I love that this has become a part of our family tradition, giving back to other families in memory of our loved one, Sabrina Gabrielle.
Please join us in this season of giving.
Thank you and God Bless,
The Whitfield Family
